Members of the Border Police Directorate (BPD) from the Ministry of the Interior recently conducted a working visit to Spain's Ministry of the Interior. During the visit, they explored the operations of their Spanish counterparts, focusing particularly on the fight against irregular migration, the detection of forged documents, and the procedures for deporting foreigners whose residency permits have been revoked.
During the visit, which took place from May 27 to 31, 2024, as part of the "EU support for efficient border management" project, at the headquarters of the National Police of the Kingdom of Spain, the BPD police officers gained insight into the work of the National Coordination Centre for Border Crossings, Cooperation and Coordination with other departments working at the state border, the Department for Suppression of Human Smuggling and Irregular Migration, the Department for Risk Analysis and Suppression of Document Forgery, as well as with preparations for the establishment of new EU information systems (ETIAS, Entry-Exit).
During the tour of the Adolfo Suarez-Barajas airport in Madrid, the delegation of the Ministry of Interior of Serbia was presented with the organization and work of the border police in profiling passengers, detecting misuse of documents, as well as the way of working on the second line of border checks and the procedure of and the process of forcibly removing foreigners.
The study visit also included an overview of the Spanish police helicopter unit, which undertakes a variety of tasks including state border surveillance. The Serbian delegation was shown the drones and equipment used by the unit, including helicopters outfitted with advanced thermal imaging devices.
